چکیده

Arthur, J. and J. Eaton (1971). "CHLORAMINE TOXICITY TO THE AMPHIPOD GAMMARUS PSEUDOLIMNAEUS AND THE FATHEAD MINNOW(PIMEPHALES PROMELAS)." amphipods (gammarus pseudolimnaeus) were subjected to 96 hr and 15 week exposures, and fathead minnows (pimephales promelas) to a 21 week exposure of various chloramine concentrations under continuous flow conditions. The most marked sublethal effects were reductions in the number of young produced by the amphipod and of eggs produced by the minnow. The 96 hr median tolerance limit (tlm-50) for the amphipod was 0.220 mg/l total chloramine. Fathead minnows in the long term study were all killed at the highest concentration, 0.154 mg/l total chloramine, within three days. The lowest measured total chloramine concentration in the long term tests having no significant effect was less than 0.0034 mg/l for the amphipod and 0.0165 mg/l for the fathead minnow. Facility design and associated services for the study of amphibians.

The role of facilities and associated services for amphibians has recently undergone diversification. Amphibians traditionally used as research models adjust well to captivity and thrive with established husbandry techniques. However, it is now necessary to maintain hundreds of novel amphibian species in captive breeding, conservation research, and biomedical research programs. These diverse sp...

The need for water quality criteria for frogs.

Amphibians are considered reliable indicators of environmental quality. In the western United States, a general decline of frog populations parallels an apparent worldwide decline. The factors thought to be contributing to declines in frog populations include habitat loss, introduction of exotic species, overexploitation, disease, climate change, and decreasing water quality. With respect to wa...

Nitrogen pollution: an assessment of its threat to amphibian survival.

The potential for nitrate to affect amphibian survival was evaluated by examining the areas in North America where concentrations of nitrate in water occur above amphibian toxicity thresholds. Nitrogen pollution from anthropogenic sources enters bodies of water through agricultural runoff or percolation associated with nitrogen fertilization, livestock, precipitation, and effluents from industr...
